I am creating a survey with 80 participants from 8 departments. Most of the respondents will only be selecting 6-8 individuals in response to the relationship questions. It’s a lot to ask them to scroll through 80 names and radial buttons to find the 6-8 that they want to click on. Is there an easier way to present this? I know that there’s a “search for the name” option, but that might cause people to forget someone they want to select.
Can the names in the relationship questions be organized somehow by their affiliations (in this case “department”?)
Yes, the best option to achieve this is to add the name of the division or department in front of the respondent’s name in the Name column of the respondent list. For example:
Department 1 - John Citizen
Department 1 - Jane Citizen
Department 2 - Joe Citizen
At the same time you will likely want to add an extra column called something like Original Name and include just the name. This will give you access to the regular name when you generate the networks.
Polinode automatically sorts names alphabetically. So, after the above, you will find names sorted by department in the list for a multiple choice question type.
This approach can work well with lists up to a few hundred people in size. Beyond that, it’s generally better to use the search and select question type.
